The JV baseball team picked up a pair of wins in a double header against Alcoa Tuesday night, defeating the Tornados 14-2 and 4-3.
The Eagles came out hot in the first game, scoring early and often. Capitalizing on a series of passed balls and fielding errors, the bottom half of the Seymour lineup broke things open in the 2nd inning. Nine Eagles got to bat, plating five runs.
But Seymour wasn’t finished yet; the onslaught continued in the 3rd inning with four more runs on five hits and two walks.  The Eagles would pick up five more runs in the 4th to finish with 14 runs on 12 hits.  Seymour was able to capitalize on five walks and seven passed balls.  Logan Jenkins, Ben Whisler, and McCarter all collected two hits for the game, with McCarter collecting the win on the hill.
The second game was much closer than the first, with Seymour edging the Tornados by one.
Seymour proved they could take advantage of small ball situations, capitalizing on passed balls, stolen bases, and fielder’s choice to mount an early 2-0 lead.
Seymour took the win, scoring 4 runs on 4 hits and 4 walks. The Eagles were led by Logan Jenkins who went 2-2 on the game.  Cody Cravens started the game manning the mound for the Eagles, but it would be Jenkins who picked up the save.
Coach Daryl Randles was pleased with the performance of his young team.
“I think we had a lot of improvement tonight. Our boys looked really good. We didn’t make any mental mistakes and only had two physical mistakes. That’s pretty good for a JV group that’s only played six games. I’m really happy with it,” said Randles. “I think everybody had a good game. All our guys are swinging the bat well and playing defense well. We’ve already done a lot of growing, and it’s still fairly early in the season,” he continued.
The JV will travel to Gibbs Monday, playing at 5:00 p.m.
