The Lady Eagles had no problem advancing to the next round of the district tournament, defeating Alcoa 60-32.
Seymour jumped out to a quick lead, finishing the first quarter up 13-4. Alcoa would gain a little momentum in the second quarter, but could still not keep up with the Lady Eagles who were playing well on both sides of the ball. The Lady Eagles went in to the locker room with a commanding 30-15 lead at the half.
Seymour didn't let up in the second half, setting the tone with a Casie Cowan three pointer on the first possession. Cowan would also end the quarter on a good note, holding the ball for the last shot then driving through the lane, hitting the layup and picking up an extra point off a foul shot. The Lady Eagles ended the quarter 48-22.
In the fourth quarter, the Lady Eagles fielded their reserves, and there still was no let up in quality basketball. Seymour maintained tenacious defense, forcing turnovers regularly and racked up 12 points on offense. Ashley McCarter had two steals in the fourth quarter, the last of which involved a headfirst dive onto the floor to gain possession and then a pass it to a teammate already in stride to the basket.
