SEYMOUR – Strong winds blew through the area February 11, a day after a tornado touched down in Oklahoma and killed nine residents there.
Rain blasted the streets about 4:30 p.m. as the wind pushed it into Sevier County, and by 5 p.m., the traffic lights at the intersection of Maryville and Chapman highways was flashing red and yellow. One of the heavy lights had been blown over its wire and was situated on top of it.
Traffic hesitated as drivers stopped, then attempted to cross the intersection without getting hit. Power was out briefly at several stores near the intersection, and tree limbs and leaves littered the roads.
