MARYVILLE – No, they didn't have to settle for what they could find in the locker room because they forgot their dress shoes. Maryville College coaches donned tennis shoes with their regular game-day attire during the game Jan. 31 as part of a the nationwide Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend.

Coaches vs. Cancer is a collaborative initiative between the National Association of Basketball Coaches and the American Cancer Society.

The goal of the event is to raise awareness about cancer and the importance of cancer prevention, early detection, and proper exercise and nutrition.

Since the inception of the event in 1993, Coaches vs. Cancer has raised more than $40 million towards the research and efforts of the American Cancer Society in hopes of someday eliminating cancer as a life-threatening disease.
