SEYMOUR – Rainy weather didn’t dampen Joshua Rimel’s spirit as he and the members of his Boy Scout troop attempted to build a fire in a timed event.
“I am having a lot of fun here,” said Rimel, 14, after his group, the Bats from Sevierville, failed to make the deadline for boiling a can of water over the fire. “I prefer the fire-building event to the others, even though we made it a minute and 26 seconds over the time.”
The Bats were one of six Boy Scout troops from Knox and Sevier counties – known as the Sequoyah District – attending the Klondike Derby, a weekend-long winter camp at Temple Farms off Boyds Creek Highway. The troops were 110, 36, 58, 255, 582 and 585.
