A Knox County man has been arrested in connection with an early morning attempted kidnapping that occurred Monday in Seymour.
Kevin L. Montgomery, 37, of 2800 French Broad Lane in Knoxville, was charged with attempted kidnapping and aggravated assault.
He was transported to Sevier County Jail, where he was arraigned and a $100,000 bond was set.
A preliminary hearing in Sevier County General Sessions Court will take place at a later date.
According to the Sevier County Sheriffs Office, police received a 911 call at 7:09 a.m. from a woman, stating that a white male had attempted to grab her and pull her into his car at Kroger parking lot on Chapman Highway in Seymour. Officers were dispatched to the scene.
Police said the woman had called her father before calling 911, and she then went to her place of employment.
The woman’s father, John Walker, was traveling on Chapman Highway and encountered Montgomery’s vehicle at the Kroger parking lot, where Walker tried to approach it.
Montgomery fled in his car, police said, and Walker followed him until he pulled into the E-Z Stop Market on Chapman Highway. Walker again approached Montgomery’s vehicle and, according to Walker, Montgomery tried to hit him with the car.
Police said Walker fired his pistol at the car in an attempt to stop Montgomery, but the man continued to drive away.
Officers arrived at the EZ Stop and obtained a description of the vehicle from Walker, and a short time later the Montgomery was apprehended by Sevierville Police Dept. at the Zoomer’s Market on Highway 66.
Police said the investigation is continuing and will be presented to the Sevier County Attorney General’s Office to determine if any other charges will be filed related to the incident.
No further information was available from police.
