SEVIERVILLE – The Sevier County School System took its case for a new high school and a variety of building improvements throughout the county to politicians, teachers, parents, students and the media on Dec. 16 during an education summit.
The morning-long event, which brought in 141 concerned people, included a talk by Director of Schools Jack Parton, round-table discussions and a session prioritizing three major strategies for increasing funds by passing a sales tax referendum.
The discussions focused on the school system promoting understanding within the community of the funding issues facing it, fostering commitment for increasing the sales tax, mobilizing the entire community and determining how to pay for the referendum.
