Medic Regional Blood Center reminds everyone that giving back to the community does not necessarily have to cost you anything. “Giving blood is free, most everyone has a pint to spare and it is a tremendous gift to the community. And, best of all there is no out of pocket expense,” states Christi Fightmaster, Medic spokesperson. Giving blood helps save lives in our immediate community because Medic, a non-profit organizations, is the sole provider of blood in the greater East Tennessee area.
Medic has two fixed site locations: 1601 Ailor Avenue near downtown, Knoxville as well as 11000 Kingston Pike in Farragut near Pittsburg Paints. For even more convenience, there are several community drives planned.
· March 5, Food City—Seymour, 11503 Chapman Highway, 10am – 6pm, Bloodmobile.
All donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds or more and have positive identification. Donors will receive a year’s credit towards Medic’s Family Blood Coverage Program which exempts donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood collection and processing fees at any U.S. hospital if a transfusion is needed. Donors also receive a free t-shirt and cholesterol evaluation.
