A career-night from Tennessee junior forward Wayne Chism sparked the No. 19 Tennessee Volunteers (6-2) to a second half rally the propelled them past No. 23 Marquette, 80-68, Tuesday in Nashville as part of the Southeastern Conference-Big East Challenge.
After scoring just five first half points Chism took control of the lane and poured in 21 points over the second half on the way to his career-best effort of 26 points. He hit eight of his 11 field goal attempts, including a key second-half trey, and pulled down 11 rebounds.
Chism helped the Vols pull away from the Warriors prompting a six-point Tennessee run that broke a 48-48 tie with just over 10 minutes left in the game. The Vols went on to outscore Marquette 48-36 over the final 20 minutes of game time.
Junior Preseason All-Conference forward Tyler Smith scored 14 points for UT and point guard Bobby Maze added 10 points, four rebounds and six assists in a team-high 32 minutes.
