The career-accolades keep pouring in for former Seymour High School football coach Gary Householder.

Householder, who also serves as the school’s athletic director and head golf coach, retired as the Eagles head coach following the 2008 season after 33 years at the helm. He has received everything from fishing rods to state proclamations over the past few months in honor of his over three decades of leadership of the SHS football program.

The Sevier County Commissioners delivered Householder’s most recent decoration when they declared Friday, December 19, 2008 as Coach Gary Householder Day.

“I was surprised by that,” said the humble coach. “It’s a very nice honor. I appreciate (County) Mayor (Larry) Waters and the commissioners for doing that for me. I went to the commissioners meeting Monday night and talked to Mayor Waters and the commissioners and thanked them.”
