When was the last time that you went to a show? Was it a comedy show in Pigeon Forge? Was it a rock or country music concert at the Civic Colosseum? Was it a movie at a local or regional multiplex? How long were you entertained? Was it an hour? Was it an hour and a half? Was it two whole hours? Did you buy popcorn or soda-pop? So you don't get out much? Do you entertain yourself through television or internet?
Now that you are thinking, what do you get for your money? Pigeon Forge shows charge $10 and up for anywhere from 1 to 2 hours of entertainment. Rock bands get anywhere from $15 to $150 dollars for major market shows. Movies are over $7 a ticket then you have to buy $10 worth of popcorn and soda-pop in mega-containers that could feed a small troop. For the home entertainer, how much is cable or satellite bilking out of you for the same rehashed shows every day? Is it $50? Is it $100? Is it more? How much are you paying for your internet service?
I know where to find some of the best entertainment in the world. This is some of the best entertainment money can buy! You can feel every emotion that some actress or actor from thousands of miles away wants to evoke out of their performance. This is honest entertainment. It is spontaneous, hilarious, awe-inspiring or even terrifying. One minute, you may be cheering at the top of your lungs, then next moment you may be holding your breath in anticipation of some kind of release. To see this, you will only spend $3 a ticket and even less for children!
I am talking about grade-school athletics. For the cost of a ticket, you can see not 1 game but 2 entire games, usually a boys team and a girls team. On intramural nights, you could see 4 or 6 different games. You will not get that much bang for your buck anywhere else. It is awesome watching these kids give it their all. They are not being paid big bucks. They are not getting any endorsement deals from Coca-Cola or Nike!
Schools offer concessions just like the movie theaters and the popcorn is just as good. The same Coca-Cola and Pepsi products are just as good at the schools as they are anywhere else. Some schools even sell good ol' HOT-DOGS! This could be a special dinner and a show for those nights when you want to be frugal but still get the best entertainment.
As an added bonus, the schools use the money for their inner workings. Think about Commercial Free Movie channels like HBO, SHOWTIME, etc. You give an extra $20 (plus or minus) a month on your cable/satellite bill so that these channels can create some of the dumbest shows on God's green earth such as Sex and the City, Queer As Folk, Taxi-cab Confessions, Entourage, Sopranos and other less-than-family-friendly fare. ou may not like how the school is run. You may not like the administration or even a particular person. Just as you may not like some of the aforementioned shows, however, you still send in your cable bill in full!
You say that you don't know any of the children playing. Well, do you know Johnny Depp or Clint Eastwood personally? Do you know Britney Spears or any other recording artist? We all love Peyton Manning around here but I daresay that very few of us have been invited to his house for Sunday dinner. Chances are that you do not know any of these people personally but that does not hold you back from watching one of their performances, shows or games.
Get all gussied up! Make a big night out of it! Heck, you can even go casual if you don't want to make a big fuss! Go see a local game! Meet your neighbors! Cheer these kids on through the games! Support your local school children! Chances are, these productions will be more enjoyable than anything that you would have to pay big bucks to see!
