According to Sevier County Sheriff Ron Seals six Sevier County men have been arrested connection with a shooting incident that occurred at 3069 Boyds Creek Road on Saturday night Oct 13th 2008.
Seals states that at approximately 9:30PM the Sheriffs Dept. received a 911 call stating that a subject had been shot with a shotgun.
When officers arrived they found that the victim, Timothy Carr age 18 of Sevierville, had been flown to UT Hospital in Knoxville by Lifestar suffering from injuries from a shotgun blast to the torso area. Witnesses at the scene told officers that they had been having a prowler on their property and had decided that they would lay in wait and catch the prowler themselves.
The subjects then told officers they spotted the prowler and that the prowler shot Carr.
A search of the area was made using helicopters and K-9 search teams but the armed prowler was not found.
Upon further investigation Detectives state the subjects' stories varied and Detectives soon discovered that Carr had been accidentally shot by one of the subjects in the group. The shooter is alleged to be Samuel H. Brown age 20 of Ft. Campbell Kentucky.
Brown was charged with reckless endangerment. Five other men have been charged with making a false report after making up the prowler story to cover up the accidental shooting.
Seals states that the men’s story caused authorities to tie up resources that could have caused them to not be available if a real emergency occurred.
Carr is being treated at UT Hospital.
The following were charged with making a false report:
Norman E. Williams and Jonathon L. Williams both of 3069 Boyds Creek Hwy Sevierville, Travis M. King 1360 Helton Rd. Sevierville and Caleb Small 1724 Allensville Rd. Sevierville.
