A story last month alluded to the cowardice of commissioners by requiring citizens to pass through a metal detector. Many in government were offended at the allegation. To go a step further the county commission has now banned weapons from what should be the most public building in our city, the courthouse.
No longer are we the wild-eyed colonials refusing British orders to disarm. No longer are we the rugged frontiersman who settled a territory in the face of an opposing group of people shooting at us and hurling sharp objects at us.
Today, we are quivering mounds of puddin'. We fear our own shadows. Our backbones have grown extremely wide but unfortunately have been splashed with yellow paint. We have become whipped puppies with our tails between our legs while shuffling away from the corridors of government.
Are these commissioners reflective of our own American beliefs? Are these stouthearted men worthy of our trust? Who are these men who so fear their fellow man that they command the most ridiculous security for the most public of meetings? Are their no iron-willed men and women who are willing to advocate the Supreme Law of the Land?
