Tennessee head coach Phillip Fulmer likes the progress being made this week as his Vols prepare for Saturday’s SEC clash at Auburn.
Both the Vols and Tigers are coming off home league losses — Tennessee to Florida and Auburn against LSU — and neither wants to make it two setbacks in a row. Fulmer says the best way to get a big win is through solid efforts on the Haslam Field practice surface.
“Practice was very good,” Fulmer said after the team’s 90-minute workout. “I was really happy about what we did Tuesday and I think we built on that today. There certainly are things that every day you want to accomplish — that’s why you go to practice. I believe we made some progress from one day to the next.”
Auburn stands at 3-1 overall and 1-1 SEC. The Tigers have won three straight against Tennessee, snapping a 5-0-1 Vols streak that ran from 1989-99. Included among the recent Auburn wins over UT was a 28-21 decision five years ago on UT’s most recent visit to Jordan-Hare Stadium.
Fulmer also says the Vols (1-2, 0-1 SEC) are relatively healthy heading into the game.
UT students rewarded for supporting Vols, Lady Vols
University of Tennessee students have a new way to watch Big Orange sports — and get free Vols gear in the process.
The Tennessee Student Rewards Program encourages UT students to support all 20 varsity sports and win great prizes while doing so. Just show up to support the Vols and Lady Vols at designated Rewards Games and scan a valid UT student ID card for proof of attendance. The more Rewards Games attended, the better the prizes.
Points awarded thus far have been for attendance at events such as football against UAB, volleyball versus Mississippi State and the UT Invitational cross country meet. Upcoming Reward Games events include volleyball versus Kentucky (Oct. 1), soccer against LSU (Oct. 3) and Arkansas (Oct. 5) and the next home football game against Northern Illinois (Oct. 4).
