An inspired defensive effort combined with a revamped, rediscovered offense pushed the Seymour Eagles (1-1) to their first win of 2008, an impressive 25-0 whitewashing of Cocke County Friday night in Newport.

A week after the Eagles were held without a point in the season-opener at Heritage, Seymour head coach Gary Householder pulled out an old bag of tricks to breathe life into the Seymour offense.

In the aftermath of last week’s dismal offensive performance that saw the Eagles rush for a total of 13 yards and gain less than 40 yards of total offense, Householder and staff spent this week re-installing a wide open, spread-out passing attack that had previously led to the success of so many Eagles teams from the past.

Seymour junior quarterback Ryan Chadwick looked like a different player altogether Friday at Cocke County, hitting on 10-of-21 of his passes for 95 yards with a touchdown and an interception.
