The three best things the Seymour Eagles 2008 football team can take from its 15-minute debut under the lights Friday against four-time defending Class 4A state champion Maryville at the annual Sevier/Blount Jamboree is confidence, confidence and a little more confidence.
The Eagles shocked the Rebels and the packed stadium at Heritage High School with a dominant performance that led to a 7-0 win over Maryville during the second quarter of the preseason kickoff event.
Seymour will look to feed off the adrenaline acquired with its jamboree performance when the Eagles return to Heritage High School Friday night to face the Class 5A Mountaineers in the 2008 regular-season opener.
Although both Maryville and Seymour substituted freely in Friday's jamboree, as each squad used the exhibition to play as many kids as possible in front of the big crowd during the game-like atmosphere and under the Friday night lights, the Eagles can certainly take a giant boost of confidence after such a dominating performance.
