Pigeon Forge, TN. – This past week and throughout this month residents of Pigeon Forge Care and Rehabilitation center are celebrating the Olympic Games by having their own version.  From wheelchair races to javelin throws and even bowling, the residents will be participating in several events throughout this month in celebration of the 2008 Summer Olympics.  Their self titled “Senior Olympics” involves many of their long-term nursing home residents, short term rehabilitation patients and several clinical and administrative staff.  So far the residents are winning in the volleyball tournament against the staff, and next week a trip to the local water park to practice their swimming.  “We take our patients to many off-site locations for activities, but Beijing is a little too far.  So we brought the games, the celebration and the gold medals to our residents,” says Glenda Trentham, Activities Director for the facility.

Not only are games being played, but also the celebration of culture.  The Dietary department will be preparing food from other countries during the “Senior Olympics.”  The residents will also be celebrating various national days such as Hawaiian day, Mexico Day, USA Day and others.

These types of activities are a small part of the overall Quality of Life programs seen at Pigeon Forge Care and Rehabilitation Center and all of the Signature Healthcare Communities.
