The Seymour Herald is inviting the entire Seymour community to a “Back to School Party” at 11 a.m. Saturday morning at the lot behind the Seymour Business Park.
Herald Newspapers Publisher and Seymour Business Park owner Joe Karl said the “Back to School Party” is the first in what he hopes to become an annual tradition for the thriving Seymour community.
“As a parent of two school-aged children who attend Seymour schools, I know how much pride Seymour takes in its children and its schools,” said Karl. “I wanted to do something for the kids and their parents to celebrate the beginning of what I anticipate to be another exciting and successful school year in Seymour.”
The 2008/2009 school year begins for all Sevier County students on Monday, August 18.
Karl explained that Harvest Tent Rentals, a locally-owned entity that has recently gained regional accolades for its party-supply business, will bring a variety of inflatables to the back-to-school-celebration.
“Harvest Tent Rentals and Inflatables will be going the extra mile to set up their most popular inflatables for the Seymour Community to enjoy,” Karl stated. “We’re also very excited to have part of the awesome Seymour High School marching band performing at the “Back to School Party”.
The nationally-recognized SHS Marching Band is slated to kick off the event with a performance at 11 a.m. Saturday morning. The band will be making one of its first public performances under the tutelage of first-year band director Rhett Butler.
Karl said the Seymour Volunteer Fire Department will bring its fire truck to the event and, weather and time-permitting, “might even spray down a few kids”.
The Sevier County Utility District will set up its large grill to cook hundreds of hot dogs. The local Food City store will be providing the hot dogs, buns and drinks for the celebration.
The Tennessee Martial Arts University will be holding demonstrations by some of their top students and local Boy Scouts will be earning coveted badges at the event.
“It will be a wonderful occasion to wrap up a great summer,” Karl added. “I’m looking forward to seeing the community come out and help us kick off the school year in style. I know many kids wish that summer would never end, but this is a great way to start the new school year.”
