Country music icon Roy Clark is scheduled to headline the 2008 Sevier County Fair. Widely recognized as one of the most talented musicians in the world, the star of television’s Hee Haw will perform Friday night, September 5th at 8:00 pm.
“We couldn’t be more thrilled to have one of country music’s all-time greats headlining this year’s Sevier County Fair,” stated Allen Newton, Executive Director for the Sevier County Economic Development Council. “Roy Clark’s across-the-board appeal ensures that a good time will be had by all in a family friendly environment.”
Roy Clark began his music career in 1947 in his hometown of Washington D.C. and went on to win the national banjo competition in 1950. Sixty-one years later he is a member of the Grand Ole Opry , the Gibson (Guitar) Hall of Fame and boasts his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Clark was a frequent guest on The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson and Bob Hope once summed Roy up by stating, “Your face is like a fireplace.”
Having toured with such country legends as Hank Williams, Sr. and Grandpa Jones, Clark is probably best remembered from his role on Hee Haw along side Buck Owens. In all, Clark spent 24 seasons on the show, making it the longest-running syndicated show in television history. Throughout his career, he has landed over twenty Top 40 hits on the Billboard country music charts.
