Volunteer Speedway will host Fan Appreciation Night presented by Rusty Wallace Auto Group of Morristown on Saturday, June 28. A five-division racing program featuring "Gateway Ford" Super Late Model, "Courtesy Chevrolet" Crate Late Model, "Rusty Wallace Toyota" Hobby Stock, "Century 21 Masengill-McCrary Realtors" Mini Stock, and IMCA Open Wheel Modifieds is scheduled.
For this special night of racing adult grandstand admission is only $5, with youth (ages 10-15) $2, while children 9-and-under are admitted free in the grandstands when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes and backside tier-parking $25 for all ages.
Prior to the evening of racing, all fans will be allowed to come down onto the front straightaway and into the infield pit area to have a “meet and greet” session with all the drivers and to get an up-close look at the race cars. Drivers’ will have goodies to hand out representing themselves and their sponsors (photos, race cards, keychains, buttons, hats, T-shirts and candy) to the fans. Also for the kids, some drivers will be giving away bicycles.
Throughout the night the track will have many prize giveaways to distribute to lucky fans in attendance.
"Ever since we held our first Fan Appreciation Night seven years ago it's evolved into one of our most anticipated night's of racing each year," said track owner Joe Loven. "It's exciting just sitting up in the grandstands watching the cars race around the high banks, but to get the opportunity to go down on the track and walk around and see how steeply banked the track is … plus getting to look the race cars over and meet the drivers is very special to many people. The economy currently isn't in the greatest shape, and a night of racing for only $5 is a really good bargain for all the race fans in the area. I feel that with only a $5 admission charge, if anybody wants to come out for a night of good dirt-track racing action, it's definitely affordable."
The pit gate will open on Saturday, June 28 at 4 p.m. and the grandstand gate at 5 p.m.
On-track Fan Appreciation Night activities are scheduled to take place from around 6:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. After a break to allow everyone to get back up into the grandstands and for the racers to prepare their cars for the night of racing, hotlaps are set to begin at 8 p.m. Qualifying will begin as soon as hotlaps end (around 8:30), and the Super Late Models and Crate Late Models will be the only classes to time-trial. All other classes will line up for their feature races according to the current point standings in an effort to save on time. Feature racing will get the green flag approximately around 9:15 p.m.
