Opening day went as well as anyone could have hoped Tuesday for the Seymour Eagles soccer team with a resounding 6-0 victory over district nemesis Cosby.
Seymour (1-0) will face Harriman in another early-season conference tilt Thursday at 6 p.m. at Benton Householder Field in the 2008 home opener.
Senior Carlos Lopez scored the hat trick in Tuesday’s win over Cosby by tallying a goal in the first half off an Alex Shelton assist and then scoring both Seymour second half goals, the first coming off a Spencer Proctor assist and the next one going unassisted.
The Eagles got the scoring parade started early when Jacob Lindsey sent a penalty kick by the Cosby keeper to put the Eagles up 1-0. Proctor then tallied off an assist from the talented Corbin Marine to put the visitors on top 2-0 still less than halfway through the first half.
