Created in 1937, the Merit & Degree program is the oldest PPA educational program. To achieve the Master of Photography degree, photographers must submit four images annually to be judged by a panel of National jurors for merits.
During this strict process, it is not common to achieve all four merits. However, Gary garnered four out of four on two separate occasions.
This year one of his prints, “Grandfather’s Mill,” was accepted into the PPA National Loan Collection, which is one of the highest awards a photographer can hope for.
