The Seymour High School Choral Department, in collaboration with the Sanctuary Choir of First Baptist Church of Seymour, will present the Judy Wade Scholarship Concert on Monday, Dec. 10, 2007. The concert will take place in the sanctuary at First Baptist Church of Seymour at 7:00 p.m.
The combined choirs will perform selections from Handel’s Messiah, and they will be accompanied by members of the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra. Featured soloists for this year’s concert will be Seymour High School graduates Cody Boling – 2006, April Hill – 1999, Emily Kent – 2003, John Patterson – 2005, & Nathan Rodriguez – 2005. Each of them is pursuing a career in vocal music.
Admission for the concert is $10.00 for adults and children. Children five and under are free. After expenses for the concert are met, the remaining money will be awarded to a graduating Seymour High School senior who plans to major in vocal music. Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door.
This scholarship was originally created in 1997 to help offset some of financial cost of pursuing a college degree. The support from the Seymour community has been wonderful, and thus far 20 students have been recipients of the scholarship. As of August 20, 2007, over $12,000.00 has been awarded to Seymour High School students through the Judy Wade Scholarship.
