On the heels of a disappointing conclusion to the 2007 high school volleyball season, the district regular season and tournament champions Seymour Lady Eagles held their end-of-the-year team banquet, putting a cap on another successful volleyball season for the rising program.
Directed by veteran head coach Ed Irvin, the Lady Eagles, for the second consecutive season, glided through their conference schedule without a loss and advanced all the way to the region tournament where they were eliminated by state powerhouse Anderson County in the semifinals, just one more step away from their ultimate goal of reaching the state tournament.
The Lady Eagles, who finished with an overall record of 33-15, should be in position to make another deep run into the postseason in 2008 with All-Stater Morgan Peterson returning for her senior season.
Peterson isn’t the only exciting young prospect due to don the blue and gold next season. A handful of players from the county champion Seymour Middle School volleyball team, including ultra-athletic Christina Slay, will join Irvin and the high school squad in ’08.
