David Aaron Baker age 54, of Knoxville, Tennessee, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Thomas A. Varlan to a mandatory life without possibility of parole for production of pornography. Becker, who had a previous conviction for child molestation in Colorado for which he had served over a decade in prison, changed his name and moved to Tennessee approximately five years ago. In January 2007, agents from the FBI, and the Knoxville Police Department Internet Crimes against Children Task Force interviewed Becker regarding allegations of inappropriate contact with three Knoxville area minors. In this interview, Becker admitted to agents that after his arrival in Tennessee, he began to groom children in the same manner that he had in Colorado to accept his sexual advances. Additionally, he admitted to taking pornographic pictures of area boys and filming himself molesting a boy and transmitting the images over the internet. Becker exploited position as a TSSAA umpire and referee at youth sporting events. This allowed him to have access to children. A forensic analysis performed on the computer media seized from Becker's residence revealed that he had a collection of more than 27,000 images of child pornography that he had downloaded from the internet. This Case was prosecuted federally as a result of the project Safe Childhood initiative that pools the resources of both state and federal law enforcement officers to achieve the maximum impact in these types of cases. U.S. Attorney Dedrick said: "This man's sentence provides an excellent example of the success of our Project Safe Childhood initiative and how the cooperative efforts of our federal, state, and local law enforcement partners are working to reduce this type of heinous crime in our community. Mr. Becker will have the rest of his life to pay for his crimes." For further information, please contact United States Attorney James R. Dedrick, Assistant United States Attorney and Project Safe Childhood Coordinator Charles E. Atchley, Jr., or public Information Officer Sharry Dedman-Beard at 865-545-4167
