The Veterans Day Program will feature the Seymour High School Concert Choir. The choir is an auditioned group of 50 singers who perform a diverse repertoire of classical, Broadway, and show choir music. The choir consistently earns superior ratings at both Regional and State Competitions and has been invited to sing at festivals, concerts, and conventions across the United States. The SHS Concert Choir was the only choir in Tennessee to earn an A+ at the ACDA State Choral Festival in 2007. Through the efforts of Tennessee Senator Raymond Finney and State Representative Richard Montgomery, a Joint Resolution was recently passed by the Tennessee General Assembly to honor the SHS Choral Department's outstanding accomplishments.
The choir also recently submitted an audition CD to the American Choral Director's Association, an organization whose membership consists of choral directors who represent more than one million singers across the United States. The SHS Choir was chosen from among hundreds of applicants to perform at the 2008 Southern Division Convention in Louisville, Kentucky. In addition, the SHS Choir was chosen to premier an original choral work written especially for the 2008 Convention. ACDA President David Castleberry said that the honor to premier an original work at the convention usually goes to a college choir but because the SHS Choir had scored so high in the audition process the honor would go to the SHS Choir instead.
