Seymour’s own Darrel Lauderdale was recognized last week as the Amateur Athletic Union (AAU) National Wrestling Person of the Year.

The Governor of Southeastern AAU, Martha Townley, made the announcement at the AAU national convention held in Chicago, Illinois.

“Darrel Lauderdale has done a tremendous job promoting amateur wrestling in our Southeastern AAU District, which includes the states of Alabama and Tennessee,” Townley stated.

Townley went on to point out that the Southeastern AAU had an increase in membership of over 1,000 young athletes this year, putting the SEAAU Wrestling Organization among the top five in America.
