A Sevier County Sheriff's Deputy was in the process of pulling over an older model Ford van around 1:30 P.M.. The van pulled into the McDonald's parking lot. Another deputy entered the parking lot from the other direction to stop the vehicle.

The driver, identified as Joey Curtis Galyon, 31 of 327 Jersey Drive, Sevierville hit the front end of the deputy's cruiser. Following the impact, the driver of the van attempted to drive back onto Chapman Highway. The first deputy slammed into the van forcing it into the McDonald's refuse container.

According to an eye witness, the deputies had to physically take the driver out of the van and throw him on the ground as he refused to comply with the deputies orders.

By this time, several other deputies had arrived.
