During the summer months it is vital for all eligible donors to give blood, since the need is generally greater this time of year. "The need for blood increases this time of year due to an increase in traffic as well as recreational activity both of which can lead to accidents," states Christi Fightmaster, Medic public relations. According to national statistics, one in three will need blood at some point during his or her lifetime. "Medic is trying to do our best to stay ahead of the blood needs; however, we currently have less than a one day supply of O Positive blood, the most common type," Fightmaster continues.
Please give blood at the donor center located on Ailor Avenue to visit a community blood drive in your area.

Blood donation is simple and safe. All donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh 110 pounds or more and have positive identification. Donors will receive a free t-shirt, cholesterol evaluation and a one year's credit towards MEDIC's Family Blood Coverage Program. This program exempts donors and their IRS dependents from paying blood collection and processing fees at any U.S. hospital if a transfusion is needed.
