UNDERSTANDING A CHILD'S MENTAL HEALTH

 

            According to the Surgeon General, one in five children experience a diagnosable mental illness at any given time.  That statistic should make most parents take note of the signs and symptoms of these illnesses and understand when a child may need to be evaluated by a professional. 

            "Most people don't associate mental illness with children," said Dr. Nicole Swain, Pediatric Psychologist at Children's Hospital, "but studies show that 20 percent of all families will have to deal with mental illness at some point."
