Blacksburg, VA is a place of mourning this week as families and friends try to come to grips with the tragedy that occurred on the campus of Virginia Tech University when a gunman opened fire on students and faculty.

Debra Cline, Director of Curricular and Instruction for Sevier County Schools, talked to The Seymour Herald at this time of tragedy to tell how Sevier County Schools are being kept safe.

"We have notified the principals to be on heighten awareness and make sure all buildings are secured, that they review their campus and that everything is as safe and secure as possible," stated Cline.

"We asked all schools to review their crisis management plans and told the principals that if there are students who have concerns and want to speak to a counselor to make that available to them."

Cline said that the flags in front of the schools would fly at half-staff in honor and memory of those who lost their lives.
