Newfound Gap Road – US 441 between Gatlinburg, TN and Cherokee, NC has been
closed all day while Great Smoky Mountains National Park crews work to
clear an estimated two hundred trees that were blown down overnight by high
winds. Most of the trees were downed within a mile of the state line just
south of Newfound Gap into North Carolina. Crews will work until dark
tonight in an effort to get the road open tommorrow morning. For updated
information the public can call (865) 436-1200 and get an automated message
on road status which is updated promptly as conditions change.
