Now is the time for 4-H members interested in showing horses, cattle and sheep to begin to make plans for spring and summer livestock shows. Opportunities are available for each animal species with a variety of options. Listed below are options available along with registration deadlines and show dates.
Horse owning 4-H members must complete the 4-H Horse Enrollment Form, by March 1st, to be eligible to show in Tn 4-H Horse Shows. Shows scheduled are as follows: Area 4-H Horse Show – June 7 – 9, Harriman, Tn; State 4-H Horse Show – June 18 – 23, Shelbyville, Tn. Other local county 4-H horse shows will be scheduled in April and May. Horse enrollment forms are available in the 4-H Office, Room 102, Sevier County Courthouse.
If you are looking for a good 4-H Livestock Project, I would recommend the market lamb project. Market lambs require a minimal investment of money and equipment compared to a large animal. Lambs can be purchased at local sales for around $100.00 to $150.00. They arrive in April and are sold in July. Initial investment is usually recouped. Lambs can be raised in a small stall or barn and are fed a finished ration.
If you have questions regarding any 4-H Livestock Show, please call 453-3695 or come by the 4-H Office, Room 102, in the Sevier County Courthouse. 4-H opportunities are available to all 4th – 12th grade young people in Sevier County regardless of race, color, national origin, sex or disability.
