Redshirt freshman forward Mick Imgram blasted in two goals from over 50 yards out to lead the 14th-ranked Tennessee soccer team to a 3-0 win over Arkansas on Sunday afternoon at the Regal Soccer Stadium. The win moves the Lady Vols to 7-3-3 overall and 3-1-2 in Southeastern Conference action, while the Lady’Backs fall to 9-4 and 2-3 in league play.
Imgram netted her first goal in the 28th minute with a little help from an Arkansas defender. Taking the free kick from just beyond the midfield stripe, Imgram drove the ball deep into the penalty box, where a Lady’Back defender tried to head the ball away from goal. Instead, the ball hit off the top of her head and went over UA senior goalkeeper Carrie Dillsaver’s hands for the score.
Imgram wasn’t done amazing the crowd, pushing her fourth goal of the year past Dillsaver from 55 yards out on another direct kick in the 59th minute. It was the first two-goal match in the Clifton, Va., native’s career.
Senior All-American midfielder Ali Christoph tacked on another insurance goal at 84:08, finishing the centering cross from sophomore forward Kylee Rossi for her third goal of the year.
Tennessee’s defense played another outstanding game, keeping the Lady’Backs from making a shot on goal in the contest. All six of Arkansas’ shots were fired from outside of the 18-yard box. UT sophomore goalkeeper Sarah Kitchin helped out the defense as well in her first career shutout in her initial start, collecting a number of balls that came inside the box before the Red and White could make a play on them.
The Lady Vols came out firing to start the second half. In the 49th minute, Christoph had her try from eight yards out hit the right post. The 56th minute saw senior midfielder Kristen Doukakis miss right with her strike from the six-yard line. After Imgram’s second score, junior forward Emily Redberg saw her try stopped by a leaping Dillsaver.
Overall, Tennessee took 16 shots, compared to just six by Arkansas, while the Lady Vols held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
Tennessee continues the home stand next weekend as they welcome in Kentucky on Friday and Vanderbilt on Sunday.
