Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale was named Vice President of the County Executives of America (CEA), effective September 15, 2006, at the fall Board of Directors meeting held in Washington, D.C.
The organization is composed of County Executives, County Mayors and County Judges nationwide and is headquartered in Washington, D.C.
As Vice President, Ragsdale, who has served on the CEA Board of Directors since 2003, is also president-elect and will become association president in 2008. Currently Mayor Ragsdale is also serving as President of the Tennessee Association of County Mayors.
“It is an honor to be elected to serve in a leadership role in such a prestigious organization. I look forward to working with county leaders from across the nation as we address common issues and strive to make county governments as innovative, effective and responsive as they can be,” Ragsdale said.
At the meeting, County Executive of Westchester, New York and outgoing CEA President Andrew Spano passed the gavel to the incoming CEA President Buddy Vines, a Pulaski County, AR judge.
The 700-county member CEA brings together chief elected officials to discuss and determine policy on wide-ranging issues that affect local governments and the people they serve. The association also provides a voice at the national level among the various policy-making representatives.
