Amy Kingery, of Sevierville, was installed as president of the Kiwanis Club of Sevierville, TN during the club’s installation ceremony September 21, in Dandridge.
Also installed were Norman Kallemeyn, president-elect; Christine Lewis, vice president; Angie Parton, treasurer and Doris Palmer, secretary.
In addition, the following members will serve on the club’s board of directors: Leslie Atchley, Shannon Clinton, Dan Hellman, Chad McFall, Bob Palmer and Eric Schreiner.
Kingery will be serving as the Kiwanis Club of Sevierville president until October 2007 and as part of the worldwide Kiwanis leadership team with newly elected Kiwanis International President Nelson Tucker of Northridge, CA. Kiwanis International’s major service focus, a program called “Young Children: Priority One,” will continue during 2006-07.
The immediate past president is Brian Cagle who has steered the club thru what he calls a successful year. “Our success has been in the total involvement of the membership to improve the lot of children throughout Sevier County, by any yardstick we have been successful and with a new and capable leadership team, we will continue on this road in 2007.” Cagle will continue to serve on the club board for the next year.
Recent club service activities have included such projects as working on local telethons, cooking and serving pancakes during the annual pancake suppers. The local Kiwanis Club has built parks for youth groups, assisted local schools with citizen projects and aided young people throughout the community.
These activities and the participation of club members were in part, the reason the local club was honored with five major Kiwanis regional awards at the Division Five, Kentucky/Tennessee annual meeting in Chattanooga last month.
They received the Interclub Award (2005-2006); the Governor’s Interclub Excellence Award; the Kentucky-Tennessee Administrative Excellence Award; was a 2005-2006 Bulletin Contest winner and was a District Distinguished Club Award winner.
The new president, her officers and board expect to continue this emphasis on local children’s programs and to sustain the Kiwanis spirit in Sevierville. “We have a solid history of achievement in this community,” she said, “and we will maintain that level of service to the children of this community in the years ahead.”
Kingery announced a major Kiwanis fundraising event is scheduled for Sept. 28 at Flap Jacks (1016 Parkway). “The 2006 Annual Fall Pancake Supper is for all residents and visitors. We invite them to come out and enjoy this unique community event.” Tickets are $5 each, at the door. The pancake supper will be served from 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Kiwanis International includes 8,400 clubs with more than 270,000 members in 96 nations. Last year, Kiwanis clubs donated more than $100 million and almost 6 million volunteer hours for community service projects.
The Kiwanis Club of Sevierville meets weekly, at noon, at Damon’s The Place for Ribs, on the Parkway across from Tanger Five Oaks Outlet Center; prospective members are welcome.
