The Performing Arts & Lecture Series presents “A Story to Share: A Workshop in Telling Short Stories” presented by storyteller Jennifer Armstrong on Saturday, October 14, 2006 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church, 2931 Kingston Pike, Knoxville, Tennessee.
This workshop is designed for anyone who wants to tell short stories effectively and purposefully. Through demonstrations, exercises, group activities, and individual performances, Ms. Armstrong will help both beginning and advanced storytellers improve their skills for telling pithy, engaging, and meaningful stories of 3-5 minutes in length. Storytellers of all levels of experience – and storytellers from all walks of life, including teachers, religious educators, ministers, and actors – are invited to participate in the workshop. Auditors are also welcome.
Hailed by the Chicago Tribune as a “folk phenom,” Jennifer Armstrong has spent her life writing, singing and making music with fiddle, bagpipe, banjo and words. She is a storyteller, singer, poet and instrumentalist with humor, warmth and grace. She works as an artist-in-residence in folk arts, storytelling and writing as well as a private teacher and a performer across the country. Jennifer was a featured teller at the Jonesborough, TN-based National Storytelling Festival in 1998, has been heard on NPR, and has seven recordings of music to her credit.
Ms. Armstrong will present a program of musical storytelling entitled “Building Bridges” on Friday, October 13, 2006, at 8:00 p.m. TVUUC. More information about that program is available at www.tvuuc.org/pals.
There is ample parking and easy handicap access at the venue. Child care is available by prior arrangement. Tuition for the workshop is $45 and includes lunch.
