Medic Regional Blood Center is calling all eligible blood donors to please roll up the sleeve and give a pint of blood. Medic reports a need for all blood types, especially O Positive and O Negative. “O Negative is the universal donor and is most often used during emergency situations when blood type is not known,” explains Christi Fightmaster, Medic spokesperson.
Medic, a non-profit community blood bank, needs 350 pints of blood each day of the work week in order to supply the area hospitals. “We are the sole provider of blood and blood products for 21 counties and 28 area hospitals; therefore, it is imperative we maintain a stable inventory,” states Fightmaster.
Give blood today in your community or at the Medic headquarters located at 1601 Ailor Avenue which is open seven days a week for donor convenience. Save lives in your area:
• August 29, Lowe’s Sevierville, 610 Winfield Dunn Parkway, 10 a.m. – 6 p.m., Medic Mobile.
• September 9, Women’s Expo, Sevier County Civic Center, 10 a.m. – 3 p.m., Medic Mobile.
All blood donors must be at least 17 years of age, weigh more than 110 pounds and have positive identification. Donors will receive a free t-shirt, cholesterol screening and a coupon for a free Chick-fil-A sandwich.
