Dear Editor,
“Developer to restore Van Gilder home” in June 23, 2006 edition
I feel compelled to express my outrage and disbelief about the proposed site development/destruction.
Mr. Shular’s apparently patting himself on the back about “preserving” the historic home, while totally ignoring (or disregarding) the fact that the trees and landscape he has destroyed for nothing other than selfish, greedy reasons have been there a lot longer than “another 100 years.” We citizens idly pass by and live in this community where no regard is shown for aesthetics and environmental concerns.
The changing topography of that property affects every bit of land and water nearby. God forbid he expands the golf course; studies about the detrimental effects of chemical run-off and erosion around golf courses is well documented.
If homes, condos, centers are developed, is he building his own water supply and sewer plant? Knox Chapman regularly denies new developments to “hook on” due to limited capacity.
Seymour faces (or is already there) the same out-of-control development that the rest of Sever County is experiencing. We better wake up before it’s too late to undo the damage.
Sincerely, Pam Evans
