When the doldrums of winter finally start to melt away, coaches across the country break out the gloves, the bats and of course, the baseballs.
Weeks and months of after-school training commences, and students take time after school to perfect their game.
Tigers Coach Larry Cannon knows what will be on the line come the end of the school year. Only last year did Cannon direct his then unheard-of team straight into the final brackets of the state tournament before tripping it up in the final AA game.
He doesn’t seem to be driving down that same road this year. Cannon has his secret weapon resting up for the potential of playing in that ultimate final match, and that is the team’s star pitcher, Tyler Cannon, who is also the coach’s son.
Already the Pigeon Forge High School baseball team has blown away the competition at this year’s annual Spring Fling, held in Murfreesboro. And Cannon can likely taste that sweet, sweet victory that’s just out of his fingertips – today.
However, no matter what the outcome of this weekend’s contest, The Herald is proud of its scholar athletes. It takes a great deal of discipline and determination to dedicate so many hours of time into practice. And we, as your community newspaper, will always be dedicated to ensuring a safe, successful and happy future for all out area youth.
Good luck Tigers – we’re all routing for you!
