Beads, baubles, cute clothes and a great atmosphere. Those are just a few of the things you will find when you visit Tieke, the new shop that opened next to Krogers in the Macon Shopping Center.
Owned by long time Seymour resident Leslie Tieke, the store has much to offer those with an artistic flare or anyone just wanting a pick-me-up from the stresses of everyday living. “We have bright lights and ‘happy colors’ all through the store,” stated Tieke. “I want people to be able to come in here, browse and just have a great experience.”
The store was an expansion of Tieke’s workshop which started out in her home behind King’s Academy before moving into a 700 square foot space and now to its present location. The store boasts a great selection of beads, clothing and accessories including Sacred Threats. “It’s made from a mission company,” stated Tieke. “It supports the work of Vrindavan Food for Life Inc. which works to bring free food, medical assistance and social development for the needy in India.”
A cat lover (her kitty’s at home include Mazie and Rostie) Tieke’s cat Felix greets people at the door. A ceramic styled feline the cat holds a bowl filled with beads that every visitor to the store can pick through and take home. “You get a free bead with every visit,” stated Teike.
The background for the store really comes from Teike’s teachings in the work of enameling and precious metal clay. With a degree in Teaching and Family Studies Teike decided to do what she loved best, create. She teaches others to do the same. Teike is one of only 27 senior teachers in the country that teach the level one guild certification class for PMC (Precious Metal Clay) Connection, a Dallas based company.
Teike has students from various states fly into the area just to learn from her expertise. “This is why I’m here, is for the studio. The clothing and beads add to the store. I’m a color junkie and I love all the great colors here. I am hoping that people will come to the store to buy a skirt and learn about the classes or come for the classes and pick up a skirt or top. And I want people to be able to come each week and find something they enjoy.” Teike’s pricing on the items in the store are very affordable. “I don’t want people to come in here and look and then come back waiting for the item they like to go on sale. I want them to be able to afford it now. That’s why I’ve brought merchandise in that is fun and affordable.”
Teike teaches a variety of classes where people can make necklaces and bracelets as well as other works of art. You can also pick up supplies such as brushes, arts & crafts supplies, paints, beading supplies and more. “We will be expanding that section in the next couple of months,” stated Teike.
Classes include a “Make it and Take it” night as well as other for the novice and the advanced artist. “We have kids to adult come take our classes,” stated Teike. “There is something here for everyone.”
Teike’s mom Ruby and sister Laura can be found stringing beads on any given day at the store. “We’ve really made this a family affair,” stated Teike.
“We offer more than just jewelry, classes and clothing. We offer creatively and encouragement,” stated Teike
