The trustees of Johnson Bible College have unanimously selected Dr. Gary E. Weedman as JBC’s president-elect. When he succeeds David Eubanks on July 1, 2007, he will become only the 6th president in the College’s 114-year history.
Dr. Weedman has extensive administrative, academic, ministerial and missionary experience. He is a graduate of Johnson and holds a Ph.D from Indiana University. He has preached for congregations in Burnside, Ill., and Bloomington, Ind., and taught speech at Indiana University before returning to Johnson as a professor for seven years. His administrative roles include academic dean at Lincoln Christian College, vice president for academic affairs and dean at Milligan College, provost at Palm Beach Atlantic University, and, more recently, senior vice president of TCM International Institute.
He has traveled and lectured in Western Europe and Asia, but his service in Easter Europe has been exceptional. For 20 years, he has traveled nearly ever summer to Haus Edelweiss in Vienna, Austria, and then to countries in Eastern Europe including Romania, Russia, Yugoslavia and Uzbekistan, to teach and encourage Christian education and church leaders in those countries.
His wife Janis is the daughter of Russell and Jean Morgan, both of whom served at Johnson for over 25 years. She and her three sisters are all Johnson alumni and married JBC preachers. The Weedmans have four sons—Mark, Matthew, Micah and Joshua—and three grandchildren.
President Eubanks has given a strong endorsement to his successor, saying: “Gary Weedman is an alumnus of whom I have been extremely proud. He was the first professor I hired when I became president of the College. I have been impressed by his performance in every administrative role he has filled since he left here. I have been extremely gratified by the extensive service he has given in Eastern Europe through TCM International over the last two decades while he was carrying heavy college administrative responsibilities. He is one of our own. He loves Johnson Bible College and is committed to her heritage and mission. I believe that our trustees were led of the Lord in his selection, and he has my full support.”
