HCA ranked No. 3 in its industry category of health care medical facilities. CBRL Group, a holding company for two restaurants, the popular Cracker Barrel Old Country Store, Inc. and Logan’s Roadhouse, Inc. restaurants, ranked No. 4 in the food services industry category. International Paper ranked No. 1 in the forest and paper products industry category and No. 2 overall for its social responsibility, while Nissan took the No. 4 position in the motor vehicles category.
“Obviously we are thrilled that three major companies in Tennessee and two companies planning to move to the state have been named on this prestigious list,” said Tennessee Economic and Community Development Commissioner Matthew Kisber. “Several significant efforts have taken place to help propel Tennessee as a hot spot for companies to do business, including workers compensation reform, our FastTrack initiative and a commitment to improve and invest in work force development and infrastructure needs. As Tennessee and its companies continue to receive national recognition for its successes, it’s clearly evident that our economic development strategies are working and sending us in a positive direction.”
The “America’s Most Admired Companies” list is a report card on corporate reputation. Hay Group, a global human resources and organizational consulting firm, compiled the list for FORTUNE Magazine. The firm started with the FORTUNE 1000 largest U.S. companies ranked by revenue and the top foreign companies operating in the U.S. and sorted them by industry. Hay Group selected the 10 largest companies in each industry, which created 65 industry lists. Hay Group asked executives, directors and analysts to rate companies in their own industry based on eight criteria, including, innovation, people management, use of corporate assets, social responsibility, quality of management, financial soundness, long term investment and quality of products/services. The top 20 and overall lists were chosen by the same executives that ranked each industry category.
