The Pigeon Forge City Commission will be considering committing to a $1 million contribution to help pay for expansions to the Walters State Community College’s (WSCC) Sevierville Campus.
The donation would match funds already approved by the cities of Gatlinburg and Sevierville, as well as Sevier County for a total contribution of $4.5 million to the $7 million project.
WSCC President Dr. Wade McCamey and President Emeritus Jack Campbell spoke with the commissioners at a work session meeting last week about the city’s potential investment in the local campus.
The expansion project calls for building two new buildings: one to support the school’s culinary arts program, and one as a general classroom facility.
Commissioners seemed positive about approving the funds as expressed by city manager Earlene Teaster: “We’ll find the money.”

Other items of business to come before the board include the following:
Ordinance No. 789 – An ordinance amending Ordinance No. 14-401 of the city municipal code as it relates to flashing signs – second reading.
Approval of recommendation on bid for candy supplies at parks and recreation concession stands.
Consideration of request by police department to donate used, obsolete equipment to Carter County Sheriff’s Department.
Approval of 2006 rate schedules for Wilbur Smith Associates.
