Don Parton, who has resided in Allensville for the past thirty years, was the first candidate to turn in his signed petition in the 7th District for the County Commission position.
After much consideration and observing the tremendous growth of apartments on Allensville Road and the large City of Sevierville complex development on Old Knoxville Hwy plus the construction taking place in the Gist Creek area Parton became concerned with the proper growth.
“I love the community, my district, the people, and I’ve got concerns with growth management, our roads and the education needs due to the astronomical growth we are presently experiencing,” stated Parton.
According to Parton, he feels that it is vital that the commissioners have a handle on how the community, district and county develops during this time. Parton is and has been in management for the last 15 years. With his experience as an operations manager, Parton has the necessary skills to assist in the mechanics of running the county.
Parton says, “We need to look at putting up a school in our area due to the number of kids that have moved into the 7th District. I want to be a voice of the people on the key issues that are going to be faced by the entire commission. I need to represent the people. I will be their voice.”
Besides being the assistant pastor at his church, New Life Church of God on Murrell Meadows Drive, Parton is Operation Captain at the jail for the Sevier County Sheriff’s Department.
Parton and his wife, Tammy are going to be celebrating their 25th wedding anniversary this April. They have three kids and five grandkids. “My wife Tammy and my kids support my decision and are helping me with my campaign and have offered good suggestions and advice, plus they all live in this district. They are also equally concerned that all moves in the proper direction,” Parton said.
Parton has established an email address for people to send their thoughts, suggestions, ideas, and directions they want to see the district go in. “I want to be available at all time to hear people’s concerns because I want to be there voice in the commission. We’ve never had that before,” stated Parton.
Parton is planning to have a district meeting, but does not have the dates yet. “I’m grateful for the support I’ve already received. My sister-in-law, Linda Baker is my treasurer.” said Parton.
As of this writing, there are eight candidates running in Parton’s district. Parton feels encouraged that people are taking an interest in what’s going on. “I just hope they all come out to vote,” Parton stated. In Parton’s district last election, less than 25 per cent turned out to vote.
