South Knoxville resident helps raise money for mental health at Artsclamation!
Local artist Hugh Bailey of South Knoxville participated in Artsclamation! and helped raise more than $115,000 in art sales to benefit Peninsula and its mental health programs. The fourth annual Artsclamation! fine art show and sale showcased original works by more than 30 noted regional and local artists who work in different kinds of media, including oil, watercolor, pastels, acrylics and photography. There also was an exclusive grouping of three-dimensional artists who displayed pottery, jewelry and fiber art. Bailey has a long-standing interest in and love of animals, which animates his pottery and paintings. Also, his humorous outlook is represented in most of his pieces. He is a member of the Southern Highland Handicraft Guild, Foothills Craft Guild, Knoxville Watercolor Society and The Art Market Gallery. In addition to Bailey, several students from Peninsula’s Recovery Education Center art classes had art for sale during the show. The Recovery Education Center works with mental health patients in a variety of artistic media to aid the emotional healing process through creative expression. Peninsula, a Division of Parkwest Medical Center, is East Tennessee’s leading behavioral health care provider that has helped thousands of people recover from mental disorders and dependencies so they can lead healthy, positive and productive lives. Peninsula offers inpatient and outpatient programs and a wide range of services designed to support successful and fulfilling recoveries by patients and their families.
