Semifinal win sets up rematch with Pigeon Forge

Gatlinburg-Pittman advanced to the District 2-A/AA championship game Tuesday evening with an 8-0 whitewashing of Cumberland Gap.
The stage is now set for a third meeting of the season with county rival Pigeon Forge tonight in the in the District Championship game. Pigeon Forge scored a 5-0 win over Union County in the tournament’s other semifinal tilt.
Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg-Pittman split two regular season meetings.
The Lady Highlanders rushed out to a 4-0 halftime lead. Julia Cecere netted the first goal of the game off an assist from Brittney Everhart. Chelcey Flenniken scored the second Gatlinburg-Pittman goal minutes later off a Cecere assist.
The teammates then reversed roles and Cecere scored off a Flenniken assist. Everhart scored the fourth goal of the first half off a Kellie Wilson assist in the game’s 32nd
minute.
Jamie Hatcher came out of the halftime break on fire and scored two more Lady Highlander goals within the first five minutes of the second half. Flenniken blasted in a highlight-reel goal from about the 25-yard line that settled into the corner of the goal minutes later. Jamie Shepard then notched the final goal of the game in the 20th minute of the second half.
Lady Highlander seniors Summer Blalock, Kellie Wilson, Heather Ward and Olivia Stalcup were recognized during the halftime break.
