Why should everyone be concerned about flu season? Influenza is serious disease that is caused by a virus that spreads from infected persons to the nose or throat of others. The flu season in the United States is from November through April of each year. Symptoms of the flu include:
* Fever
* Cough
* Chills
* Sore Throat
* Headache
* Muscle Aches
People of any age can get the flu. The best time to get the flu vaccine is from October to Mid November. A new flu shot is needed each year. Even though you may get the flu vaccine you may still get the flu. The flu viruses change often and may not always be covered by the vaccination. Consult with your doctor before getting a flu vaccine if you
1) ever had a serious allergic reaction to eggs
2) a reaction to a previous dose of the vaccination
3) have a history of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS)
If you are moderately or severely ill at the time the shot is scheduled, you should wait until you recover from your current illness before getting the flu shot.
