The Walgreens Drug Store located at 1840 Parkway (Parkway & Apple Valley Rd.) will be distributing flu shots for high-risk patients on Thursday, October 13, 2005. The pharmacy will inoculate only high-risk patients from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. in an effort to combat the disease from infecting thousands this winter.
High risk people include people over the age of 65, residents in long-term facilities, people with chronic health conditions, women who are pregnant, health care personnel who provide direct patient care, and household and out-of-home caregivers of children under six months old.
Seniors who present their Medicare card with Medicare Part B coverage that has not been assigned to an HMO will get their vaccinations free of charge. There is a $25 charge for everyone not covered by Medicare.
Other Walgreens stores will also be implementing this service throughout the following weeks. The business located at 3071 Parkway in Pigeon Forge will offer their injections on October 29th from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. The Walgreens in Seymour will offer the vaccinations on November 16 from 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m.
