The Kailee Elizabeth Taylor Seatbelt Check will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. this Saturday September 24, in the parking lot of Seymour Business Park at 500 Maryville Hwy. in Seymour. The business park is located in front of the Cherokee Hills subdivision.
It is free to residents of Sevier County and the Seymour area, and anyone who would like to check the installation of their vehicle child seats.
Lt. Jessie Brooks of the Safety Education Division of the Tennessee Highway Patrol will be on hand to demonstrate the proper techniques for belting in infant seats, child seats and booster seats. Lt. Brooks will be available to inspect your child safety seat and assure that it is properly installed and secured for the safety of your children.
Donations to the Sevier County United Way, an organization that helps families in Sevier County, will also be accepted during the event.
American Pie will be selling pizza by the slice and Mountain Top Guitar will be on hand to provide entertainment.
Kailee Elizabeth Taylor, a Seymour resident, was eight-months old when she was killed along with her mother Kristin Elizabeth Gibson, 20, also of Seymour, in a traffic accident July 25, 2003. Kailee was restrained in an infant seat at the time of the accident.
This event, which is being named in her honor, is intended to show community support for the family’s tragic loss and to help make sure that children are restrained properly. At last year’s event, nine out of 10 car seats were not installed correctly.
Due to the great response from last years event, Lt. Brooks will have extra staff on hand to assist with this years check.
This event is sponsored by The Herald Newspapers.
